Meet the Team
More than 25 years ago Janet and Tom Gray purchased the property next to them in Danby, New York with the intent of one day, building an English style Bed and Breakfast. This was a result of a business plan developed while Janet was earning her degree in business/marketing at Cornell. The Bed and Breakfast never crystallized.
What did develop was Highland Farms Boarding Kennel, a "B and B" for dogs.
In 1999, we built our small boarding kennel. Advertising was by word of mouth and thanks to our customers, we have built a reputation for a clean, caring, well-maintained facility, with many pet owners booking six to eight months in advance. It became evident we needed to expand our business.
The new boarding facility built in 2004 was beyond our wildest imagination. It is a board and batt construction with a gambrel roof ( like those old-fashioned barns.) The outside runs are covered. There are ten inside/outside runs with almost 100 square feet of room in each kennel run. Great for multiple-dog families, like ours. Air-conditioned and heated with an outside play yard, "Canine Lullabies" playing and nightlights. Blankets are provided in every kennel (or you can bring your pet's favorite blanket.) Inside kennels have kennel decks on the floors so your canine pals never lie on a hard cold floor. Kitchen area to make doggy snacks and reception area.
July 2005, we opened the Highland Farms Store featuring Hill's Science Diet dog and cat food, natural pet treats, toys & products and dog inspired gifts and apparel. If you live south of Ithaca, save a trip into Ithaca and get your pet food locally! Great prices too!
The original kennel now dubbed "The Carriage House"was completely renovated Summer 2008 and features the same large runs, air conditioning, heated as the "Doggie B &B", plus a wonderful play yard.
The boarding fee is all-inclusive, we don't charge extra administering medication, and providing for special needs the dogs may have. Dogs are let out in the play yard four times a day. Use our food (Science Diet dog food to fit the life stage of your pet) or your food. You are always invited to take your dog back to their kennel.
We ask that all dog guests in addition to being inoculated for rabies and DHLPP, are inoculated for bordatella (kennel cough), as well as receive flea/tick and worm prevention on a regular basis.
We encourage you to visit before your pet stays with Highland Farms and have them get to know us, the kennel, our Golden Retriever helpers: Eve, Gus and Dug.
You love your best friends and you hate to leave them, but sometimes you have no choice. You want to make sure they are in a loving and caring environment, not just put in a cage. We are small, so we take extra care with your furry family and treat them as our own.
Remember drop off and pick up are by appointment, so you don't have to be confined to certain hours, we can work with your schedule.
